Summary: Why does Cloud like brown so much?
Author's Notes: I've had this running around in my head for a while; finally got to write it down!

When Denzel and Marlene asked Cloud what his favorite color was, he invariably answered "Brown."

"Why?" Marlene asked.

"I thought it would be black," Denzel said with the simplicity of a ten-year-old. "That's all you ever wear."

"Yes," Cloud said. "But my favorite color is brown."

"What kind of brown?" Marlene asked.

"What kind?" Cloud asked, pretending not to understand her.

"What color of brown?" Denzel said impatiently, rolling his eyes.

"Ah," Cloud said. "Dark brown that is almost black, flowing over my fingers. And light brown with hints of green and laughter."

Tifa laughed from the doorway, grinning at the confusion on the children's faces. Cloud turned to look at her and smiled. "You shouldn't confuse them," she chided gently.

He got to his feet and walked over to her, wrapping his arms around her. "They'll understand one day," he said softly. "Probably sooner than we'd wish."
