Letters from Home

Tachibana Kippei always looked forward to the letters he got from his former team. His family had moved back to Kyushu just before his junior year of high school, and the team had insisted they'd keep in touch.

They'd done an amazing job. Every week, he got one or two letters from the old team, sometimes with one for An included. She wrote back faithfully, but he'd noticed that there was a different light in her eye when the letter was from Akira.

That wasn't a surprise. Although he wasn't sure why the two of them hadn't gotten together sooner, he was glad of this distance, so that there was a little more time.

He got the mail that Tuesday and nearly laughed at how the envelop strained to remain closed; this one was from Shinji. He always wrote far too much, but Kippei didn't mind; his tensai had a way of keeping him more informed than the rest of them combined.

Leaving the rest of the mail on the kitchen table, he retreated to his room, stretched out on the bed, and immersed himself in the letter, thinking that he was going to have to let An read it, too.
