Loss

Cloud stood on the edge of the pool that had once been Aerith's flower garden. The sector five church was empty but for him, which was how he generally preferred it.

Only now he really was alone; Barret had taken Marlene and Denzel back north with him. The big black man probably would take care of them better than Cloud could.

He still didn't know what had happened, didn't quite understand. It had been so fast, had happened so quickly, and she was just… gone. He turned, knelt, and gently lifted Tifa's body, cradling her one last time in his arms before stepping into the pool. She looked… peaceful, as Aerith had, when he released her. He watched as she slipped under the water and disappeared.

Cloud turned and slogged back to the broken edge of the pool, pulled himself out, and just sat there, staring at the water.

And felt his heart shatter.
